Tour around the Town of Delft

デルフトはフェルメールが生まれ育った街です。デルフトの街には今も当時の面影を残す物がたくさん残っています。

フェルメールやデルフト派の画家たちの作品に描かれた場所やゆかりのある場所を歩いてみましょう。

Starting from The Town Hall, let's walk around the scenes painted by Vermeer and other artists of the Delft school, and places related to them.

(1) Townhall Reformed in 1960's, it regained the figure as it was Vermeer lived in 17th century. Vermeer attended here and announced his marriage.

(2) Nieuwe Kerk Vermeer was baptized in this new church on 31st., October,1632. And his sister was also baptized here. This new church was the scene of baptizings in the Vermeer family, but they also buried their dead here.

(3) St.Luke's Guildhall 21, Voldersgracht. St. Luke's Guildhall has pulled down at 1876. On this site, in 19th century, the Jan Vermeer School was built. The building now stands here is new one. Vermeer entered St. luke's Guildhall as a master artist at the age of 21.

(4) The Flying Fox Inn Vermeer's parents have lived here renting an inn. It is said that there was a sign showing a flying fox. Vermeer was most probably born in this inn.

(5) "The Little Street in Delft"A Even now,the scene that 'The little street in Delft' has painted is not recognized. Some places are assumed to be the place, and there are some parts of Buildings left which thought to be painted in. This is the one of such scenes, three houses on 22-24-26, Nieuwe Langendijk.

(6) "The Little Street in Delft"B One of the sites supposed to be 'The little street in Delft', 19-20,Voldersgracht.

(7) The"Gulden ABC "printing-office Jacob Abrahamsz. Disius is the owner of 21 paintings of Vermeer until 1695. His house has pulled down and the present one was built in the19th century, a plaque in the wall commemorates his house.

(8) Weighting House Weighting House is located at the back of the City Hall. It comes to be a restaurant now, but a relief of balance commemorates in the wall above the entrance.

(9) Meat-market/Fish-market Meat-market is located by the side of the City Hall. At the left side, there are Fish-market, and the old church. This Meat-market and Fish-market were painted in the 'View of Delft by the Meat-market and the Fish-market' by Isaak Ouwater.

(10) The house of Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Leeuwenhoek is the man who may have portrayed by Vermeer as 'The Astronomer' and 'The Geographer'. Also he administered Vermeer's estate after Vermeer's death. It is said that he bring Vermeer use the camera obscura.

(11) Oudekerk The oldest church in Delft. The leaning tower began to subside during construction, and was corrected the subsidence by carrying on building in the perpendicular. The result was that the tower developed a kink.

(12) Mechelen House This is the spot where the house of Vermeer 's mother-in-law stood. Vermeer has lived here once with his family. But the house doesn't remain. Click here to look at the imaginary room of Vermeer in Huis L.V. Meerten.

(13) East Gate かつてデルフトの街は周囲を壁でとり囲まれており、各所に門が設けられていました。今も街のはずれに東門が残っています。当時はこの門には警備兵が詰めており、人々はここを通って街に入ったのでした。ファブリティウスの作品にも同様の門が描かれている。

Xmas Decolation 11月の半ばには早くもクリスマスのデコレーションが街を装いはじめました。

スヒップリュイデン村の教会とシント・ニコラスの祭りフェルメールが結婚式を挙げたのは、デルフトの近くにある村スヒップリュイデンのカトリック教会です。村には今も３つのカトリック教会が残っていて、そのひとつではないかといわれています。シント・ニコラス（サンタ・クロース）の日（12/5）に先がけて、11月半ばにお祭りが行なわれました。
